Grimsa
Master course: TAP - Building in Landscape, AHO Spring 2023
Irma Werenskiold
Located on the flat plains of Grimsa with views of the Rondane mountains, this project explores the transition from open landscape to enclosed space,
inspired by Norway’s Scenic Routes. It offers a place of rest that connects travelers to the landscape.
The project centers on three spatial qualities:
- The long journey
- The tall room
- The circle
The enclosed timber structure, housing a toilet and technical room, is designed for introspection, with limited light and a feeling of hierarchy. In contrast, the circular concrete platform offers an open, egalitarian space. Together, they create a 12-meter journey between the enclosed and open.
Built for year-round use, the insulated timber structure is clad in timber and plywood for durability and warmth, with a heated concrete floor for easy maintenance. The sloped roof sheds heavy snow, while timber construction allows for potential reuse, enhancing sustainability.
